On July 31, 2006, I initiated my blog, http://dailypaintingpractice.blogspot.com, joining the many fine artists who post a work daily online.  Although I frequently offer my daily paintings for sale on eBay, I use this blog to discipline myself to develop my hand and eye.

Pricing for Commissioned Paintings

Portraits

Prices are for a single individual. For additional figures, add 50% of the base price. Detailed backgrounds, large sizes and pets may entail an additional fee in an amount determined after consultation with the client. Portraits are delivered unframed.

General Pricing Terms

Prices do not include framing, delivery, packing, shipping and handling, taxes where applicable, insurance, or installation. The artist's travel and per diem expenses more than 20 miles outside the artist's local area are payable by the buyer.

For commissioned paintings, a non-refundable deposit of 40% is due upon contract signature. The deposit and contract reserve a place on the waiting list and hold the price. The balance is due upon the acceptance of the painting.

Delivery is made and title to the painting passes to the buyer upon payment in full. Peter Yesis reserves and retains all rights of reproduction and all copyrights in the preliminary designs, the final painting, and any incidental works made in the creation of the painting.

Procedures for Commissioned Paintings

Portraits

1. The process begins with a client-artist consultation during which the general concept, number of figures, figure size, location, dress, background and intended location for the painting are discussed.

2. A signed contract with a 40% non-refundable deposit reserves a place on the waiting list and holds the price. Additional expenses necessitated by travel, special background, attire and other items to be included in the painting are also addressed in the contract and may be payable at this time.

3. A sitting may occur on the same date or may be scheduled separately at an agreed upon location, date and time. Time is spent with the subject to aid the artist in determining a suitable pose, expression, attire, accessories, objects and background. At the sitting, photographs, color notes, color and/or black and white sketches are done as needed. The camera is used to record the subject in a number of poses, expressions, and perhaps locations. Typically, the sitting time is leisurely and will require several hours depending on the complexity of the project.

4. The artist returns to the studio to create a color study of the portrait. The color study is presented to the client for comment. The artist makes adjustments accordingly.

5. The artist begins the final portrait on fine linen. All portraits are approximately life size and painted in oil. Several live sittings are preferred, if schedules and proximity permit, but at least one final sitting is needed for any minor adjustment, correction, and completion of the portrait. Completion takes 2-3 months or more depending upon the size and complexity of the portrait, the number of sittings, and the artist’s backlog.

6. Upon acceptance of the portrait, payment of the remaining balance on the contract is due after which delivery shall be made.

A native of New Jersey, Peter works from his home studio in Omaha and en plein air to capture commonplace scenes and objects and to transform them into images of lasting beauty. A few chairs in the yard, an old man on a porch or a garden bouquet may become the centerpiece of a painting. "I look for an object or a scene that is part of daily life. My art is not necessarily about magnificence or splendor, but about the unexpected simplicity and honesty of our immediate surroundings."

Peter Yesis demonstrated a natural artistic talent early in life, but not until reaching his fifties did he pursue art on a full time basis. He renders paintings in a softened, realistic style that leaves space for thought and reflection. "Whether I am painting a still-life, a figurative or a landscape, my goal is to draw the viewer's eyes to the underlying beauty of everyday life."

Peter places great importance on art education for professionals and amateurs alike. He has presented workshops for artist groups in Iowa and Nebraska and for the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska.
